The aim of the NifTools project is to build software that enables users to create and edit content stored in the NetImmerse File Format. These NIF files store the 3D models used in several popular PC games based on the [http://www.ndl.com/ NetImmerse/Gamebryo game engine]. So far, NifTools has focussed on NIF files from TES3: Morrowind, Freedom Force, Freedom Force vs the 3rd Reich, Dark Age of Camelot, Zoo Tycoon 2, Civilization IV, and TES4: Oblivion.

Aim and Scope

NifTools is an open source project creating tools—such as an editor, C++ and Python libraries, and import/export plugins for Maya, 3ds Max, and Blender—for files used by the NetImmerse/GameBryo™ game engine. These tools enable users to create and edit 3D models and animations used in several popular PC games.

So far, NifTools has focussed on TES3: Morrowind, Star Trek: Bridge Commander, Freedom Force, Freedom Force vs the 3rd Reich, Dark Age of Camelot, Zoo Tycoon 2, Empire Earth II, Empire Earth III, Civilization IV, Sid Meier's Railroads, TES4: Oblivion, Megami Tensei: Imagine, Pro Cycling Manager, Loki, Prison Tycoon, Wildlife Park 2, Red Ocean, The Guild 2, Axis and Allies, Fallout 3, Fallout New Vegas, Bully SE, and perhaps a few more.
